Can I become a pharmacy tech just by ping the test?

Since jobs are scarce I was thinking about going to be a pharmacy tech. My mother and father are both pharmacists but I didn't go in that career path. Now the way things are, desperation has set in. I am interested in becoming a pharmacy tech. If I take and p the test, can I become a pharmacy tech or do I need some additional schooling? I know from how my mother talks, the techs at her place (hospital) are trained on some stuff in the pharmacy there when they are hired so they do not already know everything when they get the job.
