I know this sound pretty crazy but should i use a comma before the word but?

yeah u should.... anytime your using and or but, you should use a comma if the 2 statements can be alone as a sentence. if your like listing something like "this and that" no comma... but if its like "i went with her, and he went with us" then u need a comma because they CAN be 2 separate sentences
