In the Gettysburg Address, how does Lincoln relate the idea of liberty to the terrible losses suffered in the?

Lincoln is basically saying that while the devastation at the battle was huge, it wasn't like it was done without reason. It was done because the acts of slavery were against freedom and personal liberty. By winning at Gettysburg, the people who gave their lives there would make that freedom happen. The nation would be whole again. All people here would be free.
