Is this chicken rotten?

i bought chicken drumsticks a week ago and the day before they were due i threw them in the freezer, i took them out 2 days ago sand let them thaw in the fridge, I have never really paid attention to the way chicken smelled, but today before cooking it i smelled it just to make sure it was good. I had to put my nose right up to it to smell anything, but it did not smell like nothingness, it was left on the counter for 1hr to bring up to rm temp before cooking it, so maybe its just because it was at room temp that i thought it smelled funny, but the odour was not terrible, and i had to put my nose pretty close to smell anything. is the chicken bad? will it taste or smell funny when cooked? how do i know?> any actual risks of eating chicken so close to the due date?
