Meditation is the path to enlightenment?

my teacher has made it clear that meditation is the path to god(he means enlightenment). with this ull be able to be in touch with the world and manipulate it(magic). but ofcourse that shouldn't be ur reason to find "god". there is also another way to manipulate this world without enlightenment which is witchcraft but with this ur selling ur soul to the devil(negative energy). Im just wondering who supports these claims. which authors or people is he getting these from? I know on old text people claim to have special powers. jesus christ claims he is the son of god and can only do miracles when god allows. could this be an example of what my teacher is trying to explain?
