What is the biblical explanation for the finches Darwin observed in the Galapagos?

Darwin observed that the finches of the Galapagos were similar to finches everywhere, except that some had bills that allowed them to more easily exploit alternate food sources. What is the biblical explanation for this? Was Noah given a big list from God telling him exatctly where on Earth to drop off a pair of each animal?
